Happy Wednesday loves! I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July! So today I am recapping our second destination from our Italian getaway, Cinque Terre! If you missed our first destination, Venice, you can read about it here! Cinque Terre, which means Five Lands, is five small towns set along the Italian Riviera that are just breath taking! Our goal was to experience each town in just two days and of course all the pesto we could eat since pesto was created in this region! I’ll just say it definitely didn’t disappoint! Here we go! <3
We stayed in the gorgeous town of Vernazza, which was definitely my favorite so I highly recommend staying here if possible when visiting! When we first arrived we headed out for lunch and stopped in to pick up pizzas from Baia Saracena Pizzeria and brought them down to eat by the water. We got the pesto pizza and it was probably the best pizza I have ever had! Like I said pesto was created in this region so it is extra fresh and delicious! I wish I got a picture of it because they seriously smother your pizza in it! So yummy!
After lunch we explored the town a bit and then headed for a wine and bruschetta break at La Torre, which had the most amazing views I have ever seen! It is a little bit of a hike up to the restaurant/bar but it is so well worth it! The wine was delish and very well priced, the bruschetta was yummy, and the view was out of this world! This place was definitely a highlight of our trip!
This view though!
We pretty much had the whole place to ourselves which was pretty awesome and got the table at the tip of the cliff! So beautiful!
We relaxed here for awhile and had a bottle (or 3) of wine before heading back for a homemade dinner. We did a few homemade dinners since we stayed in airbnb’s to cut cost and to help us get a little relaxation in. Also, the view from our airbnb wasn’t too shabby!
Can I just say I want to just move to Italy for all the amazing cheese?! I was seriously in Heaven!
The next day we set out to explore all five towns! A lot of people hike the towns since there are paths that connect each town to one another with breath taking views, but since we were pressed for time and also didn’t want to poop ourselves out we opted for the unlimited train pass that goes to each town. Trust me there’s still walking involved! The first town we stopped at was the farthest town, Riomaggiore. This was my second favorite town because it was so beautiful!
Also, if you go around the corner by the water you get these gorgeous views!
Next up was Manarola! This town was fun to watch all the swimmers and cliff jumpers in the little cove. We also had lunch at a spot with the most amazing view of the little town called, Nessun Dorma! Are you finding a trend here that I like places with a view?! ;) But I mean who can resist when the views are this gorgeous!?
The next town was the town of Corniglia, which is the smallest of the five towns. It was also quite the hike to get up to this town! Look at all those stairs!! This was the part that made us say we were glad we took the train haha! Although if you are unable to hike the stairs there is a shuttle for a small fee that will take you up. Just a warning though it gets extremely crowded and hot, because we took it down.
The view from the top of Corniglia.
The last town (since we already explored Vernazza where we were staying) was Monterosso al Mare. This town is known to be the beach town and has the only natural beach. This town felt the most modern of the towns and had more elaborate looking buildings. We sat down for a drink and then made our way back to Vernazza.
After getting back to Vernazza we got gelato affogato which is gelato with express over it. It was the best gelato ever. Then we headed up to Vernazza Wine Experience for some wine tasting before dinner. I highly recommend this place for wine tasting! The owner was so knowledgeable about all of the wine and we had some of the best tasting wine of the trip there, also again with a to die for view, especially during sunset!
We finished the night with a delicious meal at Il Baretto and headed in for another early morning of heading to our next destination of Florence! <3
