Frills and Thrills Guest Post

TGIF!!! So last but certainly not least, is the amazing Sam of Frills and Thrills! If you want your daily dose of fashion, from street fashion to high fashion, definitely check her out! She is also the sweetest! :) I hope everyone has an amazing weekend and I will be back Monday with a New Orleans recap! I’ve missed you guys! :)

A Little About Me:
My love affair with fashion began from a very young age, my preschool drawings were made up of
bits and pieces of clothes, rainbow shaded and very unwearable I might add. Not having the
patience it requires to sew, I decided to study Fashion Marketing instead as I wanted to learn more
about the history and development of the fashion industry and how it works in a business sense. I
also completed my degrees in Journalism and Graphic Design, aspiring to work for a local fashion
magazine. However, I discovered that opportunities within the fashion magazine industry in South
Africa are very limited. Instead of not living my dream career, I decided to write about fashion
anyway, in a blog format. This is how Frills & Thrills came to be.

About my blog:
Frills and Thrills is a colourful combination of trends, clothing and accessory collections, celebrity
style, high fashion editorials, new designer discoveries and little snippets of inspiration,
all fuelled by my love of writing and passion for fashion.

Thanks to the beautiful and sweet Shannon for featuring me on this guest post. I am a huge fan of
her amazing sense of style.

Alice + Olivia Spring/Summer 2014
Pretty meets Preppy Chic

Stacy Bendet has that Young Hollywood fashion formula perfectly mapped out: Beautiful cocktail
dresses with flattering fit-and-flair silhouettes that are the life of the party. This season, Alice +
Olivia sticks to a neutral and monochromatic palette, churning out sophisticated beige, black and
white A-line skirts, collarless blazers, city shorts and chic slacks that work just as well as separates
as they do together.

The midi-skirt makes an appearance in a polished mint green leather look with matching cropped
top. Ballroom skirts are casually reconditioned with preppy polo shirts and not-your-grandma
cardigans. The collection is patterned by geometric red and white prints, a black and white leaf
design and enigmatic florals.

Not forgetting that glamourous factor, Bendet has fine-tuned modern romance with decadent tulle
and lace layered evening gowns in vanilla and blush pink. Slinky slip dresses beg for an evening out
on on the town and if that’s not your thing, try on an elegant cropped trouser with tailored blazer.

Already a slew of celebrities have selected to wear the A+O SS14 range on the red carpet. This
collection meets the style demands of the executive at the office, the campus queen, ladies that
lunch and the Page 6 party girl.

Which set is your favorite?

See You in a Porridge Guest Post

Ok ya’ll so I got a little treat for you today! Let’s take a break from the fashion posts and crack up a bit! Kristen from See You In A Porridge is freaking HI-LARIOUS and the GIF queen. If you don’t already read her blog you probably should for your daily dose of funny. So sit back and enjoy!

_________________________________________________________________________________

Hi everyone! Firstly I wanted to say a huge thank you to the incredibly sweet, gorgeous and generous host Shannon for letting me crash her place today. I blog about a whole lot of nothing over at See You In A Porridge, and I have an obsession with GIFs.

It’s no secret that I love a little shopping, and I’m sure I’m not alone. Online shopping is my bestie + my nemesis. There are plenty of good things about shopping in person at stores, however when I go I seem to be reminded of why I love online shopping just that little bit more. Because with me, real life shopping is a vicious cycle.

So normally the cycle starts a little something like this.

I make sure my husband is busy for a day (thank you, World Cup) and sneak set out with an idea of how much I want to spend (or rather, not go over).

Most importantly, I drag a friend or two along for advice and support. That’s what girlfriends are for right? If I don’t bring a IRL friend, I send texts to my bloggy friends of my fitting room escapades.

I normally start in Forever 21 because cheap. I walk in all confident like I’m not closer to 31 than 21 but the blaring music, some of the ridiculous clothes and the crap they say on them make less sense than I’d like to admit.

No but seriously, sometimes I look around and I’m like am I the only one this makes no sense to?

After I get passed the weird shit, I find some ok looking stuff and it’s all cheap! Then I see something that is like $30 and I’m like Forever 21 who the heck do you think you are? This dress is not worth $30.

I like Forever 21, some of their clothes are great and cheap. Some, not so much. So I eventually get a headache and leave the store. I will see you online, Forever 21 even though your return policies suck balls.

In other stores, I basically head straight for the sales or clearance racks. I don’t like paying full price (who does?) and I don’t want to fall in love with something I don’t want to pay for. But doesn’t it feel like a kick in the pants when you’re looking in the ‘clearance’ area and you see a cute top that’s not worth more than $15 and the tag says $50? That is ridiculous. I walk away from the so called sale feeling cheated.

When sales associates ask me if I need any help, I get all defensive.

Anyone ever accidentally spoken to someone you thought worked there? Awkward.

On the same note, I don’t know what it is about me, but I always get asked something and I’m like I don’t work here! Stop talking to me.

Eventually I find some stuff to take into the fitting room. Why do stores still do curtains? Would it kill you to put a door in? I feel like everyone can see me.

I hate the uncertainty of taking things into the fitting room – sizing can be so different between stores and it’s a serious hit to the self esteem when your normal size doesn’t fit.

It’s like my personal challenge to get those jeans on when they refuse to budge. I jump around like I’m 15 again and in some awkward mosh pit, I pull and tug and then I hear a rip or the tag is in my hand. Oops.

If I got the jeans on, I succeeded. I walk out to show a friend and try not to show that these are possibly the most uncomfortable pair of jeans ever and I feel like a telletubby but the friend insisted so out I waddle.

Then my friend is honest, and why shouldn’t she be? She doesn’t want me to waste my money on something that does not look cute.

Except there is no method to my madness and it makes me sad and mad.

My friend (or sales associate) might ask if I need another size.

Speaking of, I hate when the sales associates give me their opinion. I don’t trust you as far as I can throw you, random stranger who wants me to spend my money.

Moving on.

On the other hand, you might find something amazing and it looks stunning and everyone agrees.

I feel like I won an award or something, like I did something great by finding something that looks cute on me. Thank you, thank you very much.

I’m about to walk up to the register to check out with my one very reasonably priced item and I see something out of the corner of my eye. I try to ignore it but it is pulling me towards it. I try to be strong…

But it is perfect. Do you ever see something at a shop and you know it is ‘so you’ and it’s perfect and you know it will be amazing and you’ll love it? That happens to me every time I go shopping.

And then I see the price tag.

I can’t pay that much.

I try to walk away…

But I can’t walk away.. it called to me. And I would wear it all the time. Right? It’s an investment. It’s a smart purchase. And when was the last time I really bought something as a treat, for me?

Then I realise they only have one – one! – in my size. It’s fate. It’s meant to be mine, and if I leave it someone will steal it from me. I can’t let that happen.

I try it on, as a last measure – maybe it will look horrible and I will hate it. But nope, I feel like a freaking model.

And my friends agree, and the sales associate spins her well worded crap.

So I walk up to the register again, this time eyes firmly in front – nothing else will grab my attention. I get in the line before I change my mind. I get that ‘probably shouldn’t be doing this’ feeling as I’m signing the receipt.. you know the one.

I walk out feeling a mixture of pride, shame, happiness and determination to not shop for a long time.

But we both know..

Because at the end of the day…

Please tell me I’m not the only one…

Hi lovelies!!
Ashley here from Twenties Girl Style!! When Shannon asked me to guest post for her, I was ecstatic and so flattered!! I am a HUGE fan of Shannon’s fabulous blog and her amazing style! Shannon has such an amazing way of putting pieces together to create boho chic inspired outfits with a touch of sexy and I LOVE it! I have definitely taken a few tips from Shannon’s blog!
This top has been EVERYWHERE lately!
It might be because it’s adorable, or it’s chambray, or it’s the little pom-pom ruffle detailing, or maybe it’s because it was $9.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret though…it’s from the little girl’s department!
Who doesn’t love a spectacularly great little kid’s section find?!
I definitely recommend this top as it has a ridiculously flattering fit and the pom-pom detailing is ADORABLE!

Cuppajyo Guest Post

Happy Monday loves! So as ya’ll know I am on vacation this week in the Big Easy, but you know I am not going to leave ya hangin! I have 5 amazing bloggers taking over my blog for the week! I tried to pick bloggers that I absolutely love, but yet some of my readers may not be familiar with to keep things interesting! But trust me, you need to add all these ladies to your reading list ASAP because they are that amazing! To start off the week I have the gorgeous Jyostana from Cuppajyo! She seriously kills it in all her posts! I basically want to steal everything she wears! I hope ya’ll enjoy and don’t forget to follow me on instagram to see what I am getting into in NOLA! I hope ya’ll have a great week! <3
_________________________________________________________________________________
Hi everyone! My name is Jyotsna and I’m the blogger behind Cuppajyo, which is a personal style blog. Other than fashion, I do occasionally write about beauty tips and other things that inspire me. I am originally from India and now live in the beautiful city of Boston with my dear husband. I am so excited to be guest posting on Shannon’s blog today! I absolutely adore her sense of style and have been a follower and huge fan of her blog since forever. For today’s post, I am going to be sharing 3 maxi skirt outfits, with different style vibes. Like its fashion counterpart the maxi dress, the Maxi Skirt is a summer fashion staple that every girl needs in her wardrobe! With a plethora of designs, prints, cuts and colors to choose from, there is something for everyone out there. It is super versatile; you can wear it to the beach, dinner, an event or even work ( given the style and cut are office appropriate ). And the best part is that they can be made to work for most seasons; they are easy to transition to the cooler months, with booties and a leather jacket.

OUTFIT 1 : Tie Dye Maxi skirt For the first outfit, I decided to go the casual route with a basic tank and a cotton tie dye maxi skirt. Tie dye, the quintessential print for music and hippie stereotypes is now also big on the fashion scene. I love the laid back easy feeling that tie dye resonates. It is vibrant, breezy and perfect for those casual summer days. A bright red scarf and beige flat sandals complete this look.

OUTFIT 2 : Pleated Maxi Skirt
For the second post, I styled a pleated Maxi skirt in a soft powdery blue shade. The pleated maxi skirt is undoubtedly the most popular version of the maxi skirt. Thin to medium accordion like pleats are super pretty and flattering for most body types. Larger pleats can tend to add more volume if you prefer that; but thin to medium ones are soft, they skim the body lightly and move gently as you tread. I love pairing a pleated maxi skirt with a fitted top : like a crop top or a fitted tee or tank tucked in. The skirt can be worn casually with flats or dressed up with heels. Throw on a statement necklace and a bold lip and you should be all set with this outfit! And if it gets a little chilly, a structured jacket like a denim jacket would look great with this look.

OUTFIT 3 : Floral Maxi Skirt
For the third and final post in the Maxi skirt series I decided to style a Floral Maxi Skirt. A gorgeous floral print in a lightweight material like chiffon or georgette, makes a great dressy summer outfit. I adore this maxi skirt which I actually purchased last year but never got around to wear it until recently for a date night with my husband by the beautiful Boston waterfront. The details in the skirt like the side slit and the sheer sheath beneath the knees make it so romantic. I added some neon accessories like the necklace and heels; and a shiny clutch to complete this date night look.
