Happy Thursday babes! The weekend is so close I can see it! What’s better than drinking wine you ask? Drinking wine out of a cute sparkly glass of course! Today I have another DIY project that I recently did making a glittery wine glass for a total Boss Babe! This is an easy project that is perfect for a fun birthday gift to go along with a bottle of wine or even for a group of bridesmaids! Let’s get to it!
The best part of this project is that I found the wine glass for only a dollar! If you have a Dollar Tree near by, they have wine and beer glasses/mugs for only a dollar and they are actually really good quality! Here’s a list of the things needed for this project.
Supplies used in this project:
Stemless Wine Glass
Computer / Printer
Glitter (extra fine)
Mod Podge
Dry Erase Marker
Paint Pen (enamel)
Painters Tape / Regular Tape
Scissors / Paint Brush
I started by finding a font I liked and created a PDF in photoshop. I made the image size 4.5in x 2.5in and made the text fit inside that. You may want to print out a few different sizes to see what you like the best.
Find something to set the dry erase marker on to easily spin the glass to make a straight level line that we will use to mark where the glitter starts. I made this line 2 inches from the bottom of the glass.
Go ahead and trim up the printed quote so that if will fit inside the glass where we will tape it in place. I cut little slits in the corners so that it was easier to fit it to the curve of the glass. Space it evenly between the top edge and the line made with the dry erase marker.
Using the paint pen, trace the font on the glass. This may take a few tries to get used to drawing with the paint pen. I used alcohol and a paper towel to wipe off the paint when I needed to redo it. I found that it was easiest to write a letter in one stroke and then go back and thicken the areas that needed it. It was also much easier to find a box the same height as the glass to rest your hand on while writing.
Here’s how it came out. After you take the paper out of the glass it will be easier to see it. Go through and touch up any spots or even out any lines where it needs it. Once it looks good, put this bad boy in the oven and set it to 325 degrees. Set a timer for 30 minutes once the oven reaches 325 degrees. Turn the oven off after the 30 minutes and leave it in there until it cools down to fully cure the paint.
Next we will tape off the line that we made earlier so we can add some glitter to this beauty. I had to re draw the line as it rubbed off when I was drawing. I used painters tape to be sure that it created a nice and straight edge.
Then I brushed on a layer of Mod Podge giving it a nice even coat for the glitter to stick to.
Now we add some glitter! I found the easiest way was to pour out some glitter on a paper plate and spoon it over the wet Mod Podge until it was covered all the way around.
Pull off the tape as soon as you are done with your coat of glitter. This should leave a perfect edge. You can use a small paint brush or q-tip to clean up the edge if you need to. Let this dry for an hour or two (once the glitter feels like it has hardened). Then go back and carefully brush on another coat of Mod Podge and sprinkle it with glitter again. This will give it a nice thick coat. Once that has dried, brush on one last VERY THIN coat of Mod Podge to create a nice seal over the glitter. This will dry clear and protect the glitter so you do not leave a glitter trail showing everywhere in your house you’ve been drinking wine ;). Give this a few hours to fully dry before washing.
And here’s your finished product! I love the way it turned out! Happy DIY’ing and I hope you all have an amazing weekend! <3
This is so cute, Shannon! I have seen glitter wine glasses in the stores, but I never thought of making one myself! And I love the “boss babe” text. You have the best DIYs! Thanks for sharing!
